The Tiki has great spiritual significance for Maori. Its origins are uncertain, but Tiki is acknowledged as a depiction of the first man, who was created by Atua Tane (the God of Forests and Men), and is considered the teacher of all things. 

Tiki represents the connection between Man and Nature, Ancestral Heritage, Protection, as well as Fertility.
