Greenstone | Pounamu Hei Matau/Fish Hook Pendant - Large, Dark Green
The Hei Matau/Fish Hook represents determination and prosperity. It symbolises our relationship to the land and sea, and provides protection and good luck when travelling over water. There is also a connection to the Māori legend of Māui, the demi-god who is said to have used the fish hook he crafted to haul up the North Island (Te Ika-a-Māui) from the depths of the sea.
New Zealand Greenstone sourced from the Rimu area, just south of Hokitika on the West Coast of the South Island. Rimu emerged as a gold mining settlement in the late 19th Century and is now the source of some of the most beautiful Pounamu we see today. Rimu Greenstone is known for its magnificently rich, dark green colouring. These taonga are expertly hand carved by Master Carver Barry Dash in Greymouth, South Island.
Each piece is unique and individual, no two pieces are the same. The pictures are a guide only, your taonga will be very similar but with it's own unique characteristics.
