In Maori Art, a Wheku is a carved representation of a face, most commonly found at the apex of Meeting Houses (Wharenui), with the building forming the body of the Wheku. The Wheku often depicts a significant ancestor for whom the Wharenui is named — it is a symbol of ancestral heritage and guidance, as well as spiritual strength and guardianship.

Made in Rotorua, New Zealand from locally sourced timber and native NZ Paua shell, this modern interpretation of a Wheku makes for a powerful addition to the home; a symbolic figure of protection and guidance.
